An American tourist is found dead at the Randolph Hotel after a heart attack but D.C.I. Morse suspects a link with the theft of a valuable piece of jewellery from the victim’s handbag. When a battered corpse is pulled from the Cherwell a few days later Morse is more than ever convinced of foul play.
