THE CAMOMILE LAWN

Five cousins gather at their aunt’s house in Cornwall in August 1939, the last summer of their youth. The story follows them through the war years, from Cornwall to London and back again, as they try to hold onto the people they were that summer on the camomile lawn.

A DUBIOUS LEGACY

In 1944 Henry Tillotson brings his new wife home to his farmhouse in the English countryside. She is a strange woman and seems determined to make Henry’s life miserable, but Henry manages to enjoy life and has quite a lot of fun one way and another.

An InterCity train brakes suddenly in the countryside, and a white-faced woman leaps off and races to the aid of a sheep stranded on its back, unable to rise. Seeing the woman's face full of tragedy, a fellow passenger does not intrude, but the image lodges in his mind.
