Set in Westmorland after the Civil War the book tells the story of Alice Ibbetson who becomes so captivated by the Lady’s Slipper, a rare orchid, that one night she steals it from the land of Richard Wheeler, a recently converted Quaker. It then becomes apparent that several other people are keen to get their hands on it.
