Francis Leyland, a Royalist, poses as a Puritan and itinerant artist, gaining access to the house of Robert Haslewood, a known Puritan. Nearby gypsies are protected by Robert Haslewood and Froninga, the white witch, uses her magic for good and healing. Their lives entwine until Civil War forces them to be true to their side despite their personal ties.
